Bell Booth Achiever Award - 26/05/2008

The Bell Booth Achievers Award was made to Bryan Hayward at the recent Annual Conference in Nelson.

Bryan established his herd, Goldwyn Ayrshires, back in 1987 and has always aimed to breed good, functional cows that have the ability to produce exceptionally well. This is evident with the many production awards he has received over the years. Firstly, within the Bay of Plenty club, he has become a regular name on the prestigious Golden Cow Trophy which goes to the breeder whose cow produces the highest kg of fat and has also won may other classes in the Club’s competitions each year. For seven consecutive years now, Bryan has won top producing Ayrshire herd in Ward 4, which is a great accomplishment. He always enjoys a challenge and this is evident in his recent success in achieving his ultimate goal, the Mayfield Trophy for highest producing Ayrshire herd in New Zealand for the 2006/07 season with his 96 Ayrshire cows averaging 505 kg milksolids in 293 days.

Presentation holds great importance with Bryan when he is selling or exhibiting animals. The manner in which he presents his bulls at the annual bull sales is a credit to him and contributes to the high prices he obtains. He has exhibited cattle very successfully over many years, but recently his great pride has been the showing of his renowned cow Goldwyn TC Katie, who took out Intermediate Champion as a 2 year old at the 2004 World Conference Show in Hamilton. She has won numerous champion ribbons since. Not only has Katie performed well in the show ring but she is also an excellent producing cow with notable figures for the 2006/07 season of 887 kg milksolids in 300 days as a 5 year old.

Bryan is a very active member of the Bay of Plenty Club and has held office as President and Vice President in recent years. He is also very instrumental in the running of the local Putaruru A & P Show. Bryan holds a great passion for the Ayrshire bred and will always strive to maintain or better the high standard he has already achieved.
